September 21, 2009

Dear Friends,
As you are probably well aware, only two states will elect their governor this year: New Jersey and Virginia. As a result, the country is looking to these states to see if the record number of voters that came out last year in support of President Obama was a “one hit wonder” or a lasting change in citizen’s participation. Because of the importance of the upcoming election in my home state of New Jersey, I’ve decided to get personally involved to ensure that the momentum in 2008 continues in 2009. I’m proud to announce my role as chairperson of “Yes We Can 2.0,” a voter contact program targeting newly registered Democratic voters in New Jersey including people of color and young adults. I was invited to serve in this role by New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine and I proudly accepted it.
“Yes We Can 2.0” is a grassroots voter mobilization program steeped in Governor Corzine's values and Obama for America’s community organizing principles of Respect,
Empower and Include. Between now and the general election on November 3, we will be reaching out across the state to promote service in New Jersey’s communities; spawn action by New Jersey’s communities; and inspire faith amongst New Jersey’s communities. Just as our voices mattered to Barack Obama in 2008 through the “Yes We Can” campaign that made history, our voices will continue to matter in 2009 through the “Yes We Can 2.0” campaign that will also make history!
If you live in New Jersey or Virginia – or you know someone who lives in New Jersey or Virginia – let’s not lose this opportunity to be engaged, to be counted and to be heard. Let’s keep it going!
Peace and blessings,
Randal

MAKING HISTORY

At my company, BCT Partners, we conduct monthly Town Hall meetings -- it saves money and deals with core issues like assessing company progress and optimizing operations -- overall inventorying our role in the business world. These meetings are like public forums for everyone in the company.
For the first time in its 214-year history, New Jersey will elect a Lieutenant Governor in November. Since the role of Lieutenant Governor is yet to be defined, Leadership New Jersey (LNJ) and its consortium partners want to make sure that there is a statewide public forum, the 2009 Forum on the Future of New Jersey in which New Jersey voters will be able to discuss the responsibilities of the Lt. Governor. In fact, I am a former LNJ Fellow and will serve as one of the event’s keynote speakers.
Select NJ media are joining together with Monmouth University to host the state’s first-ever Lieutenant Governor debate. This debate is the one and only official debate, approved by the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission--a historic event!
